Around this time 40 years ago, In first grade. The teacher made me stop writing with my Left Hand and said I’m only allowed to use my Right Hand. She even took an orange magic marker and wrote R on the back of my right hand. I struggled to write with my right hand and became behind on my school work. When my mom somehow got wind of it she called the school to complain to the principal about it. After the principal agreed with my mom that it doesn’t matter what hand I used the teacher reluctantly said that it was okay to write with my left hand. Several days later, I was removed from the class and placed into a LAB Class for the remainder of the school year. Several years later when a mental health official was sent to the school to “figure me out” my mom told the psychiatrist about the left hand incident. He was flabbergasted and said that schools stopped doing that back in the 1950’s.
